Sine Wave Generator

An ideal AC voltage source that produces a continuous sinusoidal output. Used to test filters, amplifiers, transformers, and any circuit that processes AC signals.

Properties

PropertyDescriptionDefaultRange
AmplitudePeak voltage from the DC offset (V)5 V0.001 V – 1 000 V
FrequencyNumber of complete cycles per second (Hz)1 000 Hz0.001 Hz – 10 MHz
DC offsetVertical shift of the waveform (V)0 V–1 000 V – 1 000 V
PhaseInitial phase offset at simulation start (°)–360° – 360°

Simulation behavior

Output voltage at time t: V(t) = DC_offset + Amplitude × sin(2π × frequency × t + phase°).

The generator is an ideal voltage source with zero internal resistance. It maintains the programmed waveform regardless of load. Ammeter and voltmeter readings update continuously to show the instantaneous value.

Tips

  • Set DC offset equal to amplitude to produce a signal that swings from 0 V to 2× amplitude — useful when testing single-supply amplifiers that cannot handle negative voltages.
  • Match the frequency to the cutoff frequency of your filter to observe the –3 dB roll-off point directly.
  • Use two sine generators at different frequencies to create a simple two-tone signal for intermodulation distortion experiments.
